Where? Waverly First Pres parking lot.

How? Call the Wav Pres coordinator, Don Jayne, to let him know you can help, or to get more info.

What do the volunteers do? A variety of things..set up tables, load tables with food, greet guests, assign ticket numbers, assist guests with gathering the groceries, help carry food to vehicles, and help with takedown. This is a wonderful way to serve those in need, to offer dignity to those who need it most, and to extend the love of Christ. Interested? Call 607-565-9469...tell Don you're ready to help.

Community Free Meal

Waverly First Pres offers a free hot meal to anyone who needs food or fellowship on the fourth Thursday of any month that has five Thursdays. Next meal: THURS, MAR 22, 2012

Our church has joined with a group of community churches that makes sure that a free meal is offered every Thursday of the month.

Help is needed cooking, setting tables, serving meals, and cleaning up. This is a great time of fellowship with community folks and a fun way to share God's love.

If you would like to help serve God by feeding the hungry, call Don Jayne, 607-565-9469.

.....or Serve the Wider World

Mission Past

There are many opportunities here at Waverly Pres to expand your horizons, to step into the larger world and serve those in need.

MOST RECENTLY:  The September 2011 Flooding hit the surrounding communities hard.  Many individuals from Waverly Pres have helped with flood relief efforts in Athens, PA and Owego, NY.    Clothing and food distribution, mud cleanup,  demolition, and debris removal are some of the tasks that volunteers have been happy to help with.

Inner-city New York City - JULY 8-11, 2010. Waverly Pres sent a team of 13 adults and youth to do hands on service in the city.

The group worked at the New York City Clothing Bank, packed and served food at a food pantry, did a kids ministry in Harlem, and served with Midnight Run, an organization that delivers food and clothing to those living on the streets. An amazing time serving God was had by all.

  In the past,

Waverly Pres has sent teams to MIssissippi  to help with Hurricane Katrina Relief.

In 2008, an adult group went to Toronto  for a Service Adventure sponsored by the Mennonite Central Committee of Canada. The group was introduced to the undersides of the city and the men, women, and children  who live there. They also volunteered in a  homeless shelter for men.

In the spring of 2009, a group of youth and adult chaperones participated in a service/learning weekend in Harrisburg, PA.  The weekend focused on spiritual growth as well as on serving others.  In a section of town where there had been much gun violence, the group promoted a prayer vigil. Brush and trash were cleared from the lot where a community garden is located. Participants were able to serve at a global mission fair by working at the children's craft tables.

AFRICA - The Susquehanna Valley Presbytery (of which Waverly is a part) is linked in relationship with a presbytery in Ethiopia.  There is regular opportunity for adults to participate in work trips to Ethiopia.
