Community Free Meal

Waverly First Pres offers a free hot meal to anyone who needs food or fellowship on the fourth Thursday of any month that has five Thursdays.  Next meal: April 22, 2010

Our church has joined with a group of community churches that makes sure that a free meal is offered every Thursday of the month.

Help is needed cooking, setting tables, serving meals, and cleaning up. This is a great time of fellowship with community folks and a fun way to share God's love.

If you would like to help serve God by feeding the hungry, call Don Jayne, 607-565-9469.

. . . Or Reach a Little Further

Stretch Your Faith and Serve Others

There are many opportunities here at Waverly Pres to expand your horizons, to step into the larger world and serve those in need.

In the past, Waverly Pres has sent teams to MIssissippi  to help with Hurricane Katrina Relief.

In 2008, an adult group went to Toronto  for a Service Adventure sponsored by the Mennonite Central Committee of Canada. The group was introduced to the undersides of the city and the men, women, and children  who live there. They also volunteered in a  homeless shelter for men.

In the spring of 2009, a group of youth and adult chaperones participated in a service/learning weekend in Harrisburg, PA.  The weekend focused on spiritual growth as well as on serving others.  In a section of town where there had been much gun violence, the group promoted a prayer vigil. Brush and trash were cleared from the lot where a community garden is located. Participants were able to serve at a global mission fair by working at the children's craft tables.

AFRICA - The Susquehanna Valley Presbytery (of which Waverly is a part) is linked in relationship with a presbytery in Ethiopia.  There is regular opportunity for adults to participate in work trips to Ethiopia.

Pastor Cynthia has experienced the thrill of building a primitive kitchen with mud bricks, side-by side with some of our African brothers and sisters.  She would be happy to tell you more about this exciting opportunity!

Check back for upcoming mission opportunities!
