Children and Youth at Waverly First Pres
Nurturing children and youth in the faith is a priority.
Here are some of the opportunities available for your children:
Sunday Morning 9:45 am Sunday School - Using Seasons of the Spirit curriculum, kids interact with a Bible story in creative ways and learn important truths for their lives. Seasons of the Spirit is an ecumenical curriculum that uses the arts as a medium for learning. It follows the lectionary,which means that kids are learning the same Bible story that the adults are hearing in morning worship
Annual Christmas Pageant – Every year, the church shares the hope of Christ with the community in a dramatic production of the birth of Christ.. Children and adults are invited to don costumes and re-enact the greatest story ever told.
Valentine Delivery – Every Valentine’s Day, children and youth design and make valentines which they then hand deliver to residents in a local nursing home. This is a favorite outreach for kids and adults alike.
Vacation Bible School - Every summer, kids through 6th grade are plunged into a week of imagination, music, crafts, recreation and Bible story, all centered in teaching the saving love of Christ and showing kids how to live in the love God. A new theme every year. Summer 2010 to be announced!
ANNOUNCING: A new website for kids! Kids4Kids - This site helps kids find info about children around the world! AND shows them how they can help other kids. 7th -12th Grade
Sunday mornings - 9:45 am The teens at Waverly First Pres meet every Sunday morning to grapple with life issues and faith. The teens in the youth class range from those very new in the faith to youth who were born and raised in the church. The teens, with their teacher, study and pray and learn what it means to be a Christian in this world. If you're a teen looking for a place to learn about God and life, drop in!
Youth can serve here at First Pres! There are lots of ways to serve God and others----in worship service with music (singing or instrumental); reading Scripture in worship; ushering; serving the community free meal; working on the mobil food bank truck here in the church parking lot; acting in the annual Christmas Pageant; working at the cinnamon bun sale, mission trips and more!
